There’s nothing I can say that hasn’t been said. But this is for those in the back (or my fans).
This is momentous. To say otherwise is to ignore 400+ years of systemic racism.
But this is not the end. Racism may never end. Not in my lifetime. Not in yours. We can work towards ending it. But this is not the end.
This victory means something else for Black women than it does for me. I can look at this victory as a step towards a better, just, equitable society. I do not see myself in Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson. I know there are millions who do.
To write a true, fictional story about this moment would distract.
I always ask myself whether a story is mine to tell. Whether writing about the war in Ukraine is just. Whether documenting Bucha in a fiction story is appropriate.
Sometimes stories are not mine to tell.
A story about a Black girl looking up to Ketanji Brown Jackson is not my story to tell. I encourage those who do have that lived experience to tell it — tell it in its rawest, purest fom — and share it with the world.
I look forward to Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson’s rulings and opinions.
This is big step. But, it does not mean the work is done.

This marks the first time Ukraine has been bumped to the lower fold of the (digital) front page.
Slava Ukraini. Slava Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson.
